Vexation Blue Funk Pandemonium

42"x 72", Newspaper & Acrylic on Paper

This painting is a quasi narrative that creates a tension between the painting's subject and the viewer. The painting's imagery of a large grenade, a blue shape and a nude figure are all larger in the foreground over a large scale face with staring eyes. Newspaper is glued within the large face. Larger scale words, extracted from the newspaper with additional definitions, float between the ground and the foreground of the imagery adding to the tension. This collaboration of words and images creates chaos. The contrasting intensities of color also develop the chaotic atmosphere. The painting represents frustration, the loss of a loved one, and confusion which accumulates to the relational naming of the work, "Vexation Blue Funk Pandemonium".

Nach Innen Verletzen

24" x 35"Acrylic paint, found printed images and charcoal.

Nach innen verletzen is German for hurting inside and through this painting/drawing I wanted to bring imagery to feelings that my grandmother might have felt or went through during WW2 in Austria. The images of guns, grenades and planes are swarming or invading the farmer working in the fields in the bottom center. Printed images were used to show this was an actual occurrence; a broken bleeding heart was painted to show the deaths and heartbreak that took place on my grandmother's farm. The soldiers drawn over top of the other imagery shows that memory has many layers and over time the mind lets feelings and thoughts cross and blur together.
